Obituary of Beverly Looper Hobson

Beverly Looper Hobson 72, of Ocala, FL passed away Saturday February 13, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Mayfield, KY. on July 19, 1937 to Herman and Ogie Looper, Beverly graduated from Mayfield High School and worked for AT&T as a switchboard operator. The next year, she met and married her husband of 52 years, James Hobson. In 1968 Beverly and Jim moved to Massachusetts where they lived in Littleton and Groton for the next 26 years. After retiring, they permanently relocated to Ocala in 1997. Beverly developed rheumatoid arthritis at age 27, but her physical ailments could never diminish her indelible spirit. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend. Very active in the Garden Club of Littleton, she served as president for 2 terms. In addition, Beverly served as official landscape critic for the state of Massachusetts.. She served in numerous positions for her church including Sunday School teacher, head of the flower committee, and deaconess. She was also a member of Ocala's Royal Dames. She loved to entertain and laugh with her friends and could be found every Friday afternoon playing bridge at the CC of Ocala. She is survived by her husband Jim; son Byron (Alicia) of Boston, MA; daughter Melody (David Sneden) and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua, all of Dunstable, MA; sister Elwanda (Joe); nieces, Amy of Mayfield, KY and Meghan Looper Jewel (Bob) of Lexington, KY; and sister-in-law Kathy Looper of Lebanon, KY . A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL with a celebration of her life to follow at the Country Club of Ocala. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the National Arthritis Foundation.
