Obituary of Bernard C. Wimmers

Ocala- Bernard Wimmers, 75, of Ocala, went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 16, 2010. Bernie was a pioneer in the television industry. His career began in 1953 at Channel 4 WTVJ in Miami and he retired in 2000 as Director of Engineering at Channel 4 WFOR-TV also in Miami. Some of his program assignments included the televising of NASA's Mercury launches; the "Jackie Gleason Show", the "Johnny Carson Special"; "Treasure Isle"; along with other numerous television programs for CBS. In June of 1995, Bernie received the "Silver Circle Award" from the National Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences of South Florida. During his free time, Bernie enjoyed golfing and was an avid HAM radio operator. Bernie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ethel Sue; sons, Bernie Jr., Larry, Tom and Ken; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, Ashley Sue and Vanessa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 between 6-8 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd.-Ocala with services at Christ the King Anglican Church 3850 W. Anthony Road, Ocala, Fl 34480 on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 12 PM. Burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860 Ocala, Fl. 34478.
