Obituary of Elaine A. Camp

Mrs. Elaine Camp, 89, with family members by her side, went peacefully to be with her heavenly Father while at Estelle's Hospice House in Ocala, FL. She was born on September 12th, 1920 in Enterprise, Mississippi to Grady Garland and Virgie Aletha Moore McMullen. At age two, her father died from a heart condition. A few years later, her mother moved her and her sister to their father's hometown, Clearwater, FL. Her paternal McMullen ancestors were pioneer settlers of Pinellas County, FL. She moved to Ocala in 1938 and worked as a secretary for the Camp Phosphate Company. In 1941, she met Horace W. Camp and on June 3rd, 1945, they were married at the First Baptist Church in Ocala, FL. When her husband retired in 1975, they purchased property in Spruce Pine, NC and built a summer home. For the next twenty years, they spent six months a year enjoying the mountains. They were active associate members of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine. She was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Beaver Creek Homemakers Club. In Ocala, she and her husband were members of Woodside Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday School until she became too ill. She was involved with making sleeping bags for the homeless, and both she and her husband were in the choir, and also sang beautiful duets together. For many years she was in the Ocala Pioneer Garden Club Camelia Circle. She loved music, flowers, and reading. Mrs. Camp was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Margaret Aletha McMullen Young. Survivors include her beloved husband of almost 65 years, Horace W. Camp, Sr. Ocala, two daughters M. Elaine Camp and Nancy J. Camp, both of Ocala, two sons, Horace W. Camp, Jr., Ocala, Grady Paul Camp, Jacksonville, FL, three granddaughters, Mrs. Jennifer Berry Hefner, (Chip) Ocala, Heather Camp, Sunrise, FL, Mrs. Jessica Camp Pitkins (Dave), Sunrise, FL, four great-grandchildren, Marybeth Hefner, Katie-Lynn Hefner, Avery Hefner, all of Ocala, and Cara Marie Pitkins of Sunrise, FL. Many lives have been touched by her kind, giving, Christian Spirit. A funeral service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2:00pm with Rev. Art Hoff officiating. A visitation will also take place at the funeral home on the day of the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Anthony Cemetery, Anthony, FL.
