Obituary of Samuel Edward Wasson

Samuel Edward Wasson, III, 81 of Chiefland passed away Sept. 11, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Gainesville. Born in Nashville TN, he considered Levy County his home. He served his country in the United States Marines, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, retiring after 28 years. He worked in sales for Mims Equipment until the business closed. Mr. Wasson was a member of the VFW Post #5625, the Masons, Shriners, American Veterans Post #422 and Cedar Key Eagles. He was District 7 Commander, National AIDE-DE-CAMP, Judge Advocate for the district and was very active with all veteran affiliations and activities state wide. He was Methodist and enjoyed golfing and camping. He is survived by daughters Melanie Wasson of Gainesville, Denise Trawick of Jacksonville and Carla Cocke of Chiefland, brothers Pat Wasson of Arvonia, VA and Newcombe Wasson of Chiefland and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and caregiver, Bob Hahn (Chris Edmonds) and sister-in-law Denise Clark. He is preceded in death by his wife, Paula Hahn-Wasson parents, S.E.,II and Miriam Wasson, and sister Ann Britt. Funeral services will be Wed, Sept. 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services with Pastor Gordon Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 2:00 pm on Wednesday. Visitation will be Tuesday night, Sept 14, 2010 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
