Obituary of Samuel Hudick

Samuel "Sam" Hudick, age 93, of Ocala, FL passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Estelle's Hospice House in Ocala, FL. He was born on January 25, 1917 in DuPont, PA. Sam was raised in DuPont and joined the US Army at the age of 18. He served during WWII with General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy Invasion. After his military service, he returned to DuPont where he worked as a Pennsylvania Coal Miner and at Tobyhanna Army Depot as a Supply Clerk where he retired after 25 years. He moved to Ocala 24 years ago. He was the Maître de' at Peter Dinkles until its closing in 1994. Sam then worked at Publix for 10 years until he retired again at the age of 87. He attended Church of Hope in Ocala, FL. His hobbies included bowling, gardening, fishing, cooking, traveling, Little League sports and Boy Scouts of America. He was a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4909, AMVETS and DAV all of DuPont, PA and the American Legion of Belleview, FL. He also loved to talk with school students about WWII and the experience of veterans. To them he was affectionately known as "PAPA SAM". He is survived by his loving companion of 24 years Peggy Morgan of Ocala, FL; daughter Gail Ann Harashinski of DuPont, PA; sister Dolores Serafin of DuPont, PA; brother Mike Hudick of Pittston, PA; grandson Louis Harashinski of Germany; grandson Brian Harashinski of Laflin, PA; great granddaughters Laura and Celine Harashinski of Germany and Brenley Harashinski of Laflin, PA.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends including a special young friend Samuel Wheeler of Ocala, FL. He was preceded in death by his father Michael Hudick, mother Catherine Hudick Kopko, step-father John Kopko, and siblings Nicholas, Anna and John Hudick. A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00am with Pastor Mark Cummins officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service at the funeral home. Military honors will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park, 111 SE 25th Avenue, Ocala, FL on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 2:00pm with Angela Santos VFW Post # 4781 officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478.
