Obituary of Mary Pittman Robison

ROBISON, Mary Pittman Mary Pittman Robison, 93, of Ocala, Florida passed away on November 27, 2010 at the New Horizons Rehabilitations Center. She is survived by her niece, Susan Robison Brooks, of Puerto Rico, and her great-nephew, Alex Hawkins, of Jacksonville, FL. She has two other great nephews, Stephen and Stuart, and five great-great nephews and nieces. She was born in Thomasville, GA. and graduated from the Univ. of GA in Athens, GA. Shortly, thereafter she enlisted in the Woman's Army Corps, and served as one of the very first WAC's throughout WWII, returning to Thomasville, GA to attend graduate school and receive her Master's degree from Florida State Univ., Tallahassee, Fl. She moved to Ocala, FL with her father and two nieces, who she raised as her own, and taught in Ocala and Forest High School for many years until her retirement, She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the United Methodist Women for many years. She has been an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ocala, FL, teaching the Eutawaha Sunday School class for over 50 years, and participating in many service activities such as Meals-On-Wheels, and home visitation of the sick. She was an avid world traveler and a fine musician. She was an active member of the Bell Choir which visited many hospitals and nursing homes. Mary Robison will be missed by her family and many close friends and former students, and the many people whose lives she touched with her generous spirit. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Ocala. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Georgia. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, handling arrangements.
