Obituary of Helena D. Hoffman

Helena D. Hoffman, 91 of Fanning Springs, passed away Nov. 30, 2010 at Haven Hospice of the Tri Counties in Chiefland. She was a loving wife with enormous qualities all through the 60 years of marriage to Harold D. Hoffman of Fanning Springs. She was from a polish family, raised in Poland and when the Nazis occupied the country they incarcerated in two camps, one in Poland, the other in France. She was then sent to the US with the first exchange prisoners of war on the U S Gripsholm, crewed by volunteers through active Nazi untersee boats in 1943. Helena was a frequent world traveler, an artist, ceramics instructor; she became a manicurist in Palm Beach, FL and one of her outstanding clients was John F. Kennedy for whom she manicured him for his swearing in ceremony as President. She is survived by her husband Harold D. Hoffman of Fanning Springs, daughter Lolita Marie (Paul) Creamer of Gainesville, FL and grandchildren Paula Marie Creamer and Christopher Edward Creamer and many great grandchildren. Needless to say, she will be missed and remembered for all of her activities. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Haven Hospice of the Tri Counties would be what she would have desired. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1301 N. Young Blvd., Chiefland, FL 32626, 352-493-0050. On line condolences may be sent through our website at www.hiers-baxley.com.
