Obituary of Virginia Lee Radcliffe Randles

Randles, Virginia Lee Radcliffe, 91, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Alachua and Ocala, passed away January 18, 2011 in Greensboro,NC after a brief illness. Born Oct. 23, 1919, in Lynh, KY, to William Clarence Radcliffe and Tella Jane Goodner Radcliffe, she was the oldest of 4 daughters. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was predeceased by 2 sisters and her devoted husband of 25 years, Lloyd Randles. She was a graduate of Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, with a degree in music. She retired on May 31, 1984, as an Ass't Vice-President from the Florida National Bank in Ocala (now Wachovia/Wells Fargo). During her 25-year employment at the bank, she also held all offices in NABW, BAI, and AIB, all professional banking organizations. She was a member of the Soroptomist Club and the Marion County Chamber of Commerce. She earned her 35 year pin working with Girl Scouts. She also worked with 4H for 28 years. An accomplished musician, she was a member of the Ocala Festival Orchestra, Community Band and various other musical organizations in Ocala for 30 years, 1959-1989. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Alachua since 1988 as well as a former member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Ocala. Virginia had an adventurous spirit and a life-long quest for knowledge. She loved traveling and did so extensively after she retired from the bank. She attended over 100 Elderhostels all over the United States, as well as England, throughout Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. But she loved her family the most. In her later years, she reveled in the yearly family reunions in Greensboro when her sons, their wives, her daughter, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends from all over the US gathered for several days of fun and fellowship. She is survived by her daughter Ann Randles of Greensboro, four sons: Cliff Fischer (Ginger) of Fairfield, OH; Bill Fischer (liz) of Tarpon Springs, FL; RJ Fischer (Jean) of Birmingham AL; and Dough Fischer (Judy) of Pen Laird, VA; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Schenk of San Diego, CA. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and life-long friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, TimberRidge Chapel, 9695 SW 110th St. Ocala, FL on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 12:00PM, noontime,with a visitation from 11:00AM to servicetime. Burial will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, next to her beloved husband, Lloyd Randles.
