Obituary of Donald A. Checksfield

LADY LAKE — Donald A. Checksfield, 85, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. Mr. Checksfield was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and moved to Lady Lake from Jamesville, N.Y., in 1999. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean War; and his hobbies includes golf, hockey and softball. Survivors include his daughters Donna Adkins, Tallahassee, Judith Lownsbury, Chittenango N.Y., Karen Ciesielski, Flushing, Mich., Janet Fonger, Spring Lake, Mich.; sons Don Jr., Hurley N.Y., Philip, Papillion, Neb.; sisters Elma Checksfield, Jean Smith, both of New York, Rita Douglas, California; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in The Villages. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. Timothy Catholic Community, Lady Lake. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town New York, 444 Park Avenue South, Suite 801, New York, NY 10016.
