Obituary of Barbara Ellis

Barbara E. "Bobbie" Ellis, 72, of Ocala, FL passed away at her home on Friday, March 4, 2011 under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Marion County; after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Miami, FL on August 21, 1938, daughter to the late Ralph and Theresa Paige, she moved here from Clayton, GA in 2004. Bobbie was raised in Miami, FL and was a graduate of the University of Miami. Along with her family she lived in Coral Gables, FL until 1970, moving to Atlanta, GA for 10 years. In 1980 she moved to Clayton, GA and in 1985 she became the homebound teacher for the Rabun County School System, retiring in 1995. The family lived on Lake Burton from 1988 to 1998. Many students of Rabun County schools remember Mrs. Ellis as a compassionate teacher who influenced the lives of all the children who knew her. Bobbie had many fond memories of the time she spent living in Rabun County; one of which was showing off her grandchildren when she would meet "the girls" for coffee at the McDonald's in Clayton. Bobbie was very proud of her children, Loraine and Scott who both became police officers. She was an active alumni in her Delta Zeta sorority at the University of Florida. Bobbie enjoyed scrapbooking and making handmade greeting cards for her friends and family. She was a member of the Lady Birds R/C Club at On Top Of The World. Bobbie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Bobbie was also preceded in death by her brother Ralph Paige, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, James R. Ellis (Jim): daughter Loraine Ellis, Charlotte, N.C.: son Scott Ellis (Mary Kay), Cumming, GA: grandchildren Kyle and Luke Ellis. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL 34481.
