Obituary of Arthur Richard Neumann

Arthur R. Neumann, 92 Former teacher and high school Principal passed away March 31, 2011 in Florida.Born in Clinton, Iowa, he received his A.B. Degree from Wartburg College in 1939 and his M.A. from the University Of Iowa in 1940.He was drafted in 1942 and began his basic training in Atlantic City in 1943. While there, he met and married his wife, the former Beryl Glanding, in 1944.He served in the China-Burma-India Theater.Upon his return,hetaught American History at Atlantic City High School,and ran the adult evening school. In 1960 he joined Oakcrest High School as Social Studies Department Chairman and became Principal in 1963.In both schools, he proudly participated in all activities.After retiring in 1976, Mr. Neumann helped develop the Casino Career Institute at Atlantic Community College. Throughout his life he was very active in the Lutheran church especially St. Andrews, Epiphany, and Reformation where he was a charter member.He served as Sunday School Superintendent, council member, teacher and choir member. He and his wife spent many enjoyable Summers as Area Directors at YMCA Camp Ockanickon in Medford Lakes, NJ. He also enjoyed breakfast with the Grumpy Old Men, a group of retired Oakcrest teachers, camping, traveling in the motorhome, trips abroad, fossil hunting, shell, coin, and stamp collecting. After moving to Florida in 2007, he happily spent his remaining years reading, bird-watching, and riding his scooter up to the pool and clubhouse. He is sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, his children Carolyn Manto (John), Richard (Joann), and pre-deceased by his son Rodger (Rosanne) along with five Grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Edwin (Mary) of Bethesda,MD. A memorial service is being planned for June at Reformation Lutheran Church in Absecon with final internment at the Atlantic County Veteran's Cemetery. Further details will be forthcoming.
