Obituary of Arnold Joseph Cross

THE VILLAGES — Joe Cross, 67, died Monday, July 4, 2011. Mr. Cross was born in Wheeling, W.Va., and moved to The Villages from Everett, Pa., six years ago. He was retired after 35 years as a special education teacher; also coached basketball, baseball and softball; he was a member of St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, Summerfield, where he served as past president of the Men's Guild; he was a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Society, a eucharistic minister, a reader, member of Small Christian Communities, the Second Honeymooners Club, Tall Trees Couples Golf League, St. Mark's Golf League and Hole-in-One Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters Lorrie White, Elizabethtown, Ky., Sue Miller, Schellsburg, Pa., Mary Ritchey Stewartstown, Pa., Sharon Cross, Tar Heel, N.C.; sons Michael, Bridgeville, Pa.; brother, Charles, Wellsburg, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service.
