Obituary of David Proffitt

PROFFITT, DAVID RALPH, 79, died on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Timber Ridge Nursing Home, Ocala, FL. He was born in Orlando, FL, October 26, 1931; the son of Aaron Ralph Proffitt and Ruth Elizabeth Perdue. Mr. Proffitt was a 1950 graduate of Orlando High School and a Navy veteran of The Korean War having served on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Oriskany. Mr. Proffitt was active in FL scouting serving as district executive of Halifax D and Chisholm Trail districts in the 50's and 60's. He was a member of Morriston Baptist Church and past member of the Delaney Street Baptist Church, Orlando. Formerly of Bartlett, TN, he was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and a volunteer at Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary. He worked for New York Life in Orlando and Allan and Hoshall Engineering, Memphis, TN, until retiring in 2005. He is survived by his beloved wife Polly Proffitt, of Henderson, TN; his children Angie O'Malley, John Proffitt, Julie Hayes, John Lucius, Bonny Lucius, David Lucius and Stephen Lucius; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Mercer Baptist Church, Mercer, TN at 2:30 P.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
