Obituary of Andrew Bernard Kurdila

Andrew (Bernie) was born December 5, 1934, in Warren, OH.  He graduated from St. Mary High School, Warren, OH in 1952; received a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering in 1957 from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, MI.  In 1962 he obtained registration in the State of Ohio as a Professional Engineer.  He earned a Master of Business Administration from Kent State University in 1963.

Bernie married Carroll Miller on Aug 10, 1957, at St. Michael Church in Flint, MI.  The Government of the United States celebrated his wedding day by greeting him that day with a draft notice.  He served in the US Army for 2 years of active duty and thirteen years in the US Army Reserve.

Bernie was an employee of Packard Electric Division (Warren, OH) of General Motors Corporation for 30 years until his retirement in 1983.  Deciding that his retirement was premature, he reentered the workforce as a financial manager at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA for 13 years when he permanently retired and relocated to Ocala.

Bernie was a long-time member at St Jude Catholic Church, Ocala FL where he volunteered as an Altar Server, a Minister to the Sick, a Catechist, a Finance Board member and an Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

While a member of the Blessed Trinity Charismatic Prayer Group, he learned to play the guitar at age 70 and participated musically with the group.

He had many hobbies but he was an avid and enthusiastic fisherman.  His other interests included reading, playing cards and outdoor sports like camping, hiking and water volleyball.

He died April 1, 2024 at home in Ocala, FL.  Survivors are:  his wife of 66 years, the former Carroll Miller, four children; Cathy Frashuer of Ocala, FL; Andrew of Blacksburg, VA; Michael (wife Jerri) of Trenton, OH; and Joseph of Spring Hill, FL.  Also surviving are sisters Marianne Zazycki (Len) of Mason, OH; Peggy Baker (Jim) of Lubbock, TX; Helen Lyden (Dave) of Las Vegas, NV; and Cathy Kurdila of Las Vegas, NV.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many cousins, nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Catherine (Brusko) Kurdila, brother Jerry Kurdila and grandson Ryan Kurdila.
