Obituary of James Tyler Yancey

James Tyler Yancey, 39, passed away on November 18, 2023, at his residence in Asheville, North Carolina.  He was born in Gainesville, Florida on June 7, 1984, six weeks earlier than expected, to Robert Carl and Patricia F. Yancey. Tyler left this world as he arrived, earlier than expected. His quiet, quirky, intelligent sense of humor, insights into life, along with his warm smile, kind heart and big hugs will be missed by all of us that knew and loved him.

 

Tyler grew up in Ocala, Florida the oldest of 3 brothers. He enjoyed extreme sports, paintball, mountain biking, and boards of all types, skate, wake, and snow, he would ride like a pro. As a boy, He loved treasure hunting and boating with his Pop-Pop Rodgers along the waters of the Matanzas. He was fearless. Tyler attended school in Ocala, and after earning his diploma, he went on to obtain a certification in HVAC, which led to a career in building and facility maintenance. He took great pleasure in fixing things, and helping others. Tyler loved gadgets and tools!  At the time of his death, he was working as a maintenance team member at an upscale apartment complex in Asheville. He was loved by his coworkers and residents alike.  He was described by one resident as being “sweet, kind, openly helpful and friendly. We will all miss him terribly and his cheerful self will be impossible to replace around here. “

 

The mountains and nature were Tyler’s refuge, In times of happiness or struggle, he always felt closest to God in the quiet peace of nature. He enjoyed hiking, exploring waterfalls, drone photography, and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway with his dog Milo. He especially loved his frequent trips to Ocala to spend time with his beloved son Brody. Tyler possessed and appreciation for the small things in life: family time, real conversations, laughter, good food, good music, naps, sunsets, meeting new people, fixing “things”, playing x box and building Legos with Brody.

 

Tyler had a special ability to see the good in all people. He was always willing to help anyone in need, unconditionally.

 

Survivors include Parents: Robert Carl and Patricia Faye Yancey, (Ocala), Brothers: Robert Tate Yancey (St. Augustine), Carl Evan Yancey, (Ocala), Children: Carl Brody Yancey and Summer James Harrison. Grandparents Robert M. and Judy K. Rodgers (The Villages). His Aussie pup Milo, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

He was predeceased by paternal grandparents: James and Barbara Yancey, and maternal grandmother: Olia Faye Rodgers, and his beloved fiancé Alyssa R. Langdale.

 

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date to be held at his parents’ home Ockola Pah-Kee Farm.
