Obituary of Lee Ann Quarterman Allen

Lee Ann Quarterman Allen of Lady Lake, FL, formerly of Hilton Head Island, SC, died on December 9th, 2023, following an extended illness.

Born on January 9th, 1963, she was the daughter of John and Ann Quarterman. She graduated from Cox High School in Virginia Beach, VA in 1981, where she was captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad. She attended Marymount University in Arlington, VA and graduated from Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach, VA in 1985.

She married Clifford B. Allen (“Ford”) in 1987 at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. At that time, she was an Assistant Fashion Coordinator at B. Altman & Co. in their St. Davids, PA location.

She and her family lived in several locations while Ford worked with Procter and Gamble: Jeffersonville, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Detroit, MI; and Fayetteville, AR. In 2001, in a leap of faith, they moved to Hilton Head Island, SC so Ford could join his father and mother in their family business. Lee Ann was a past member of Island Lutheran Church and Providence Presbyterian Church.

Lee Ann was well known for her eclectic Coca-Cola bottle collection, legendary mashed potatoes, and love of all animals. Over the course of her lifetime, Lee Ann rescued and fostered over 20 dogs and 10 cats. She was passionate in her support of The Hilton Head Humane Association, donating both time and money to that organization. Lee Ann also had a great sensitivity to supporting those that served others, including public safety officials. On any given holiday, Lee Ann would prepare meals/goodies to be delivered to the local Fire Station and gate guards.

She loved hosting her children’s friends, going out of her way to make them feel welcome and at home. An incredibly creative thinker, Lee Ann did not draw outside the box, she never saw the box. No matter the challenge, Lee Ann’s greatest strength was found in her love of and devotion to Jesus Christ.

In addition to her husband, Ford (61), she is survived by a daughter, Chelsea Allen (33), a daughter, Shelby Allen Wilmer (29) and son-in-law, Cameron Wilmer (31), and son, Clifford G. Allen, III (“Case”, 25), and brother, Jack Quarterman (59).

A private burial service with her immediate family was held on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in her birthplace of Pensacola, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hilton Head Humane Association (www.hhhumane.org) and/or your local SPCA.
