Obituary of Genette Garrett

Parents: The late General Jackson & The late Queen Powe

Education: Marion County Schools

In her early years, Genette desired to set the trend of overcoming barriers.  Her first defeat was at the age of 18.  She became the first black and youngest to work at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.  Genette broadened her horizons and became a sales representative at Kirby Vacuum in Serra Vista AZ. Also a sales representative at Roberts’s funeral home in Ocala FL.  She gained a wealth of knowledge through her passion of reading.  Genette, lived her faith and trust in God daily. She shared that faith and trust in her children and other’s she met. She was one of the founding members of Living Spirit Community Church of Ocala FL. Not only a member but, also the wife of the pastor. And together they lived and shared their faith.  She was a true believer inher Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Genette Garrett was happily married to Jimmy Garrett Sr. for 46 years. Among those she left to cherish her memories: Her husband Jimmy, her children: son Dennis Jackson of Warner Robins, GA. son Jimmy Garrett Jr. of Mesquite, TX. daughter Ottisola King of Tampa, FL. daughter Wallie Nelson (Boris) of Valdosta, GA. Sisters: Cynthia Lane (Ronald), Mattie Jackson, both of Ocala, FL. Beverly Carter (Wendell) of Dunnellon, FL. Brother George Latimore of Ocala, FL. She’s been like a mother to James, Sharon, Mike Young and Tim Roberts. 19 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins. Brother and Sister-in-laws. A host of loving and caring friends and neighbors. As the oldest of her sibling, she was always there to take charge and provide assistance to others in need. Many times throughout the years, she took in the children of other family members. She would raise and teach them as her own, until the situation got better. Those children today as adults love her and will always remember her for those times in their lives. There are countless stories that can be told of how she sacrificed herself for the needs of others by taking them in. Genette had a gift of raising a child and teaching them how to become a loving, caring, and a responsible adult.

She treated everyone with love, kindness, and respect. We will forever be grateful and love Genette Garrett. She gave all who knew her countless memories of joy, laughter, respect, and most importantly a love that will forever be in the hearts of all who knew her. She was the best wife, the best mother, the best grandmother, the best sister, and the best friend anyone could ever wish for. She will forever be missed by all. Genette I will always cherish my memories of you. I love you, and I love you more.
