Linus Walker

Obituary of Linus Walker

Linus “Bud” Walker, 77, a resident of The Villages, Florida passed away on March 28, 2021.

A loving and devoted husband and father, Bud was a friendly, kind, and caring man who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bud is survived by his wife of 44 years, Laurene, and daughter, Lynn. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Walker) Anderson (Robert), sister-in-law, Lorraine (Josey) Walker (Francis), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Linus and Anna, his brother, Fran, and his brother-in-law, Robert Anderson.

Bud grew up in Smock and Uniontown, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Uniontown High School, he moved to Washington, DC. He graduated from the University of Maryland with an accounting degree. He loved accounting and especially enjoyed preparing tax returns; so much so that he was often kidded about how much he looked forward to receiving the ever-popular annual IRS Tax Guide.

An avid sports fan, Bud volunteered as a baseball and football coach with the Oxon Hill Maryland Boys & Girls Club for several years in the 1970s, developing many lifelong friendships with coaches and players.

He retired from the Superior Court of the District of Columbia after 27 years in financial operations and later worked as an insurance agent with Wagner Insurance. He was a hard-working man, good at anything he set his mind to, and was always perfectly dressed and ready for the day with a laugh and a smile.

Bud and Laurene retired to The Villages in 2005 where he enjoyed an active lifestyle including playing golf, traveling, reading, gourmet dining, playing team trivia, frequent trips to Disney World, and spending time with family and friends. After years of leisure, he went back to work part-time at Hiers-Baxley Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center; his varied duties included assisting with funeral services and greeting guests.

Pending relaxed COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a date and location to be announced.
