Obituary of Burton Floyd Brashaw

Burton Floyd Brashaw, 95, of St. Cloud, Florida passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 after a brief illness.  Burt was born December 13, 1925 in Auburn, Michigan to the late Floyd Joseph Brashaw and Vera LaVerne Fisher Brashaw.  

Burt was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard. After the war he returned to Michigan and married Ida Delia Manor in Bay City, where they lived and raised 10 children until moving to central Florida in 1981.

Burt was retired from Sinclair Oil Company and Walt Disney World. He as very active in the Mason Lodge and Knights Templar, from 1958 to 1981, where he held many offices. He developed an interest in aviation while in his early 60s and earned a Private Pilot Certificate and Ground Instructor Certificate. His love for aviation continued throughout the remainder of his life, and he celebrated his birthdays by skydiving, acrobatic rides, or other aeronautic antics every year--including on his 95th.

Burt was a Master Gardner and enjoyed xeriscaping with indigenous plants. He was quick with a smile or wave, and his glass was always half-full.

Predeceased by Ida, his wife of 71 years, Burton is survived by their children Michael Brashaw (Sandy) of Essexville, MI; Sue Hoskins of Salome, AZ; Wayne Brashaw of Summerfield, FL; Joyce Ellison (Ed) of Pembroke Pines, FL; Burton Brashaw, Jr. of DeBary, FL; Julie Gardner of Lansing, MI; Nancy Kustra (Gilbert) of Grayling, MI; Cheryl Lewis (Ethan) of Birmingham, AL; Janice Williamson of St. Cloud, FL; and Terry Brashaw of Sheyenne, ND. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and his youngest sister Ann Smith. Burt was preceded in death by his grandson David Brashaw and granddaughter Renee Jones, and his sisters Avonne Brashaw and Janice Smith.

Graveside service will be Thursday, July 22, 2021 3:00 PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  Arrangements entrusted with HIERS-BAXLEY Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL  32162 * 352-775-7427.  Sentiments may be left online at www.hiers-baxley.com.
