Willet A. R. “Bud” Boyer – Obituary

Willet A. R. “Bud” Boyer, Jr.  was born in Ocala, Florida, on September 23, 1940, to Willet A. Boyer, Sr. and Edna Yongue Boyer, and lived throughout his life in Weirsdale, Florida.  After graduating first in his class from the University of Florida with a BSBA in Industrial Management, he returned to Weirsdale as a citrus grower, priding himself on growing the sweetest oranges.  He served as a Director of Florida Citrus Mutual for many years and was inducted into the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2017.

On June 13, 1964, he married Kaye Johnson, and they were happily married for 56 years.  They raised three sons, Willet, III, Rob, and Jim.  One of his proudest accomplishments to see his family grow by seven grandchildren, all having unique gifts and all of whom he loved deeply.

He was a proud Eagle Scout, as were all of his sons.  For 38 years, he served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 113, where he helped 56 young men attain the rank of Eagle Scout.  He also earned the Silver Beaver Award.  He was a lifelong member of Weirsdale Presbyterian Church, serving as a member of the Church Session for many years.  He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as both Worshipful Master of Belleview Lodge #95 and District Deputy Grand Master.

“Bud” Boyer loved his wife and family, was strong in his faith, and proud of his service to the Church, the Scouts and the community.  He loved the outdoors and exploring, traveling throughout the world and camping in the Florida woods.  On August 11, 2020, he passed from this life to the life eternal, survived by his wife, Kaye Johnson Boyer; his sons Willet A. Boyer, III, Robert M. Boyer and his wife Nichole Boyer, James A. Boyer and his wife Kelle Boyer, and seven grandchildren, Cheyenne, Ruby Kaye, Jonah, Henry, Katherine, Nathan and Brandon.  He leaves the legacy of a rich and full life, and the lives of countless people touched through his faith and work.
