Obituary of James Arthur Steel

James Arthur “Jimmy” Steel, III, 71, of Ocala, FL, peacefully entered his much anticipated heavenly home on Sunday, August 5, 2018.  Jimmy was born in Ocala to James Jr. and Lela Steel and lived in Ocala most of his life.  He was a deacon and member of Grace Presbyterian Church for many years.  Jimmy enjoyed short term mission trips to Ukraine and Haiti.  He served in the United States Air Force and was a Viet Nam veteran. 

 

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 32 years, JoAnn Steel of Ocala, sons  Sgt. 1st Class, US Army Ret. Brent (Reanee) Steel of Killeen, TX and Father Jeffrey (Rhea) Steel of London, England, step-son Matthew (Cindy) Lowe of Ocala, FL, and step-daughter Aimee (Lt. Commander Navy Chaplain Cristiano) DeSousa of Ocala, and 13 grandchildren; Katlynn, Gregory, and Tiffany Steel, Matthew, Hannah, Sarah, Joshua, Caleb, and Abigail Steel, and Joshua, Caleb, Anna, and Aaron Lowe, and his brother Reverend Ron (Jenny) Steel of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

 

Visitation will be 6-8pm on Friday, August 10th at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, August 11th at Grace Presbyterian Church in Ocala.  Mr. Steel will be buried with USAF military honors at 4:00pm Saturday at Highland Memorial Park in Ocala.

 

In Lieu of flowers, donations in honor of James Steel can be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 2255 SE 38th St., Ocala, FL 34480.
