Obituary of Gerald Eugene Garl

Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Garl, 89, of Ocala, FL passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018.  Jerry was born in Lorain, OH to Floyd and Margaret Garl and moved to Ocala in 1990 from Daytona Beach, FL.  He was a real estate broker and builder and partner in Garl and Haff Realty in Lorain, OH.  Gerald proudly served in the US Marine Corp. from 1946 to 1948, and was recalled for the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951.  He was also a sheep farmer and artist.  He received his Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University, and worked at Central Florida Legal Services in Daytona Beach for 13 years.  Jerry was predeceased by his parents, a brother Floyd Garl, Jr., and two sisters; Dorothy Peterman and Jean Mertaugh.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years Jan Schorfhaar of Ocala, daughters Jerri-Anne (Charlie Smith) Garl, Patti Garl, and Sara Garl, sons Pete (Donna) Garl and Spencer (Beverly) Garl, grandchildren Wren (Jessie Kinyon) Garl Smith, Emma Garl Smith, Hannah Garl, Olivia Margaret Garl, Olivia Nicole Garl, and Emily Garl, and one great grandson Jack Kinyon Smith.  Jerry will be laid to rest in Lorain, OH.
