Obituary of Betty Jane Rowan

Betty Jane Rowan, 90, of Ocala went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.  She passed away at her home of 60 years surrounded by her family.  Betty Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a woman filled with Southern grace and kindness. 

Betty Jane was born on July 12, 1927 on her family's farm in Greensboro, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Susie Clark, her infant sister, Mary Sue Clark, and her three brothers, Kenneth Clark, Jimmy Clark and Bernard Clark.  She is survived by her sister, Anna Antemann. 

Betty Jane graduated from FSU with a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught many third and fourth graders at South Ocala Elementary during her 25-year career.  She was loved by her students and colleagues.  

Betty Jane married her high school sweetheart, Edsel Rowan, in 1950.  They were blessed with a 45-year marriage until his death in 1995.  They were members of First Baptist Church of Ocala for 40 years, and Betty Jane remained a faithful member.  

Betty Jane's greatest joy in life was her family.  She leaves behind her three children, Pam Pressler (Danny) of Orlando, Dr. Russell Rowan (Giulie) of Tallahassee and Amy Schlenker (David) of Ocala.  She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Chase and Mackenzie Rowan, and Katie and Caroline Schlenker.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 15 in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Ocala, 2801 S.E. Maricamp Road, Ocala, Fla.  Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. Please join our family for a reception following the service.   

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ocala or Kindred Hospice of Ocala.
