Obituary of Ovil Albro Winburn, Jr.

Ovil Albro “O.A.” Winburn Jr., 85, of Ocala, FL, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.  Ovil was born in June of 1932 in Mayo, FL.  He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.  His primary occupation was a farmer.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Florida at the age of 58.  He volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem and wrote articles for the Mayo Free Press for several years.  Al enjoyed working outdoors, researching ancestry, fishing, and attending Gator Football games.  He never missed a celebration of family birthdays, and, for years his birthday was known as the “Al Growl”.  Al had a spirit of charity and often helped and encouraged those in need.  He is survived by his sons Marc (Kathy) Winburn and Brad (Debra) Winburn, his longtime companion, friend, and caretaker, Jill Johnson, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his mother Sadie Friar Winburn, his father Ovil Albro Winburn, Sr., his sister Norma Buchanan, and his brother Harold Winburn.  Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:00pm at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Chi8ldren’s Hospital or Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.  Arrangements are being handled by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Ocala, FL (352)-629-7171.  Online Condolences may be expressed at www.hiers-baxley.com.
