Obituary of Wallace P. Mitchell

Reverend Wallace P. Mitchell, of Macclenny, Florida, and formally of Chiefland, Florida, left this world a better place than he found it over 87 years ago. He departed for his heavenly home on November 27, 2008. Wallace was born on October 15, 1921, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Warren and Mary Mitchell. His childhood was filled with the simpler things in life. Under the influence of godly parents, he developed a strong work ethic and learned the values that remained with him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard during WWII. Wallace earned his Bachelor's degree from Baylor University and his Master's degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. For 40 years, he pastored, serving churches in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. However, the greatest sermon he ever preached was the living testimony of a life dedicated to God, family, and others. He loved to reminisce and often commented that he had lived a wonderful life. His legacy and memory lives on in the hearts of his loved ones. He is survived by his sons and their wives: Dennis & Janie Mitchell of Macclenny and Darel & Jane Mitchell of Chiefland; Eight grandchildren: Jenny Mitchell, Julie Mitchell (Willie), Heather Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell (Jamie), Noel Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell (Pamela), Jonathan Mitchell, and Jordan Mitchell; A great granddaughter, Nora Jane Mitchell; and his brother, Ray Mitchell of Gonzalez, Florida. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Faye O. Mitchell, who went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2000. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 30 at 2:00 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services with his son Darel officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Chiefland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1301 N. Young Blvd., Chiefland FL 32626, 352-493-0050.
