Obituary of John Grider

GRIDER, JOHN R. Ocala - John R. Grider, 65, passed away on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Munroe Regional Medical Center, He was born in Danville, IL and moved to Florida in 1959 and to Ocala in 1977. John had been a realtor for 25 years with Coldwell Banker Ellison Realty and held the GRI designation. He also graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, member of Ocala Shrine Club, Morocco Shrine Temple, Silver Springs Shores Elks Lodge, Florida Funeral Directors Assn., Ocala/Marion County Association of Realtors, Florida Association of Realtors, Nation Association of Realtors, Former Board member of Hospice of Marion County, Florida BBQ Assn., Kansas City BBQ Assn., and Memphis in May BBQ Assn. John enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, judging BBQ contests and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Karen of Ocala, his daughters, Katherine Lyn Gillis and husband Wayne of Ocala and Christine Marie Albright and husband Justin of Ocala, his grandchildren, Logan Wayne Gillis , Devon Gillis and Isabella Grace Albright, all of Ocala, his sister, Patricia Williams and husband Bobby of Ocala, his brother, Daniel and wife Genia of Ocala and his nieces, Lora Coatney and husband Tim of Melbourne and Samantha Williams of Nicaragua. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 511 SE Third Street. A visitation and Masonic service will be held on Sunday from 5-7 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.
