Obituary of Daniel Coury

Daniel Albert Coury ("Dan"), 5391 NW 62nd Place, Ocala, Florida, left this world in a peaceful sleep on April 16, 2009. Born November 17, 1925, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, he was one of four children born to Mary (nee Kannan), of Lebanese descent. As a young man, Dan proudly served as a Merchant Marine at the tail end of World War II. In 1950, Dan married his surviving spouse, Nelle (nee Darragh) Coury, a registered nurse. Together, Dan and Nelle raised a family of three boys in Monroeville, Pennsylvania during which time Dan worked as an electrician for U.S. Steel. In addition to their home in Monroeville, Dan and Nelle liked to spend time at their farmland in West Virginia. At age 55, Dan retired from U.S. Steel and he and Nelle settled in Ocala, Florida. Dan loved jazz music and enjoyed playing the clarinet for his three boys. He also loved woodworking and making furniture, and cooking. However, his favorite passion became painting which he did at his in-home studio and at local art classes in Ocala. Dan was most proud of his three sons: Daniel (age 55, residing in Winder, Georgia); David (52, residing in Oakland, California), and Paul (50, residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan). During a recent reunion with all three sons over Easter, Dan's spirit and joie de vivre soared. Along with his wife, Nelle, and their three sons, Dan is also survived by his sisters Gen and Jessie, and his brother, John Coury, and their families. Dan also leaves behind five grandchildren: Spencer, Gabriel, Nicholas (Paul's children), Harrison and Michael (David's children) Coury; and two great-grandchildren: Alex, and Abigail (Harrison's children) Coury.
