Obituary of Tom Athanason

Tom M. Athanason, age 87, of Ocala, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. He was born in Tarpon Springs, FL on January 26, 1922. Tom was raised in Tarpon Springs and joined the US Army after graduating from high school. He served during WWII in New Guinea as a diver building bridges. After his military service he worked as a sponge diver in Tarpon Springs. He met and married Effie Fountouklis and together they raised one son. The family moved to Virginia where Tom worked as a Engineer at Alexandria Hospital. After retirement he and his wife moved back to Florida. His hobbies included collecting tools and fishing. Tom was Greek Orthodox. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Effie Athanason; daughter in law Lucy Athanason; grandsons Ike, Alex, John and Tom. Mr. Athanason was pre deceased by his son Michael T. Athanason.
