Obituary of Kathryn Gerken Whitehead

Kathryn Gerken Whitehead, 86, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late John and Eleanor Gerken on February 3, 1937.

Kathryn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family and was known by all that knew her as Kiki.  She was an extensive traveler that loved to cruise and often shared stories of her travels with her family and friends.  Kiki also adored spending summers at her mountain home in Blowing Rock, NC, where she enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and the cool summer breeze.

Kiki was also an active member of her community.  She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years, inspiring young girls to be confident and independent.  Kathryn was also a member of the Ocala Royal Dames, a charitable organization that supports cancer research and treatment.  She dedicated much of her time and energy to these causes and was loved and respected by those who worked with her.

Kiki was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hugh (aka Pete); her daughter Tracy and her grandson David.  She is survived by her two remaining children, Wendy and Ty.  She also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren who she loved dearly.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at TimberRidge Center for Rehabilitation and Healing and Marion County Hospice for their compassionate care during ther final days.

Kathryn will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched.  Rest in peace, Kathryn Whitehead.
