The Yellow Shirt and Green Shorts
About 35 years ago, I had my first hole in one playing with Dom DeBonis at Golden Pheasant in Medford, New Jersey. I was wearing a yellow golf shirt and green shorts. Later that summer Dom had his first hole in one (of his total of 8) wearing a yellow golf shirt and green shorts. Before the summer was over Dom and Pat’s son, Jeff had his first hole in one wearing a yellow shirt and green shorts. Five years ago in 2018 while playing here in The Villages with my neighbors on Super Bowl week end I made the preposterous statement to the guys in our foursome before teeing off on the first hole that if anybody had a hole in one that day it would guarantee an Eagles victory in the Super Bowl
the next day. We got to the last hole and naturally nobody had a hole in one yet. I teed off last and I hit a good shot and knew it had a chance to make the green. The ball landed a few feet from the front edge of the green rolled up to the cup and went in for my second a hole in one ever. I was wearing a yellow shirt and green shorts.

I slept in that yellow shirt and green shorts that night in order to bring the Eagles luck in the Super Bowl on Sunday in 2018. As all Eagles fans know the Eagles beat the Patriots and Tom Brady that day five years ago.
JoAnn and I were able to see Dom and his family here at their home in The Villages before he passed away on January 27th. Before we left I leaned over and whispered to Dom that I was going to wear my lucky yellow shirt and green shorts to honor him and bring the Eagles luck who were playing the 49ers on Sunday. We won and are now in the Super Bowl on Sunday against the KC Chiefs. I will wear my yellow shirt and green shorts once again this week-end to bring the Eagles luck and to honor my friend, Dom.
