Margaret Consilvio

Obituary of Margaret Consilvio

Margaret “Margie” Consilvio passed away very peacefully in Derry, N.H. with her daughter, son-in-law and nurse by her side on August 11, 2022, just two weeks before her 93rd birthday. She was a long-time parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church Ocala. Before she passed, she had been looking up, smiling and laughing. She was seeing something wonderful.

Born and raised in NYC in the East Village of Manhattan. She grew up in a tight-knit Italian family. She loved living in the City, going to shows and to Coney Island. She was the fastest typist at the Singer Company, which is where she met her husband Nick. They married in 1950.

After their 3rd child was born, they moved to Setauket, Long Island – very rural at the time. With no city transit, she used to walk 4 miles round trip to the closest grocery store with 3 kids. After a few months of that, she taught herself to drive.

She became a career waitress and started a catering company which she ran with her closest friend Marie. Even though she was only 5’0”, she could carry trays with 12 dinners on them. Margaret always had a sharp wit and kept her customers, family and friends laughing. She never was known for holding her tongue – as her care providers can attest to.

Margaret was a strong advocate for anyone she loved, being able to cut through obstacles that others could not. She raised her children while working full time, and ran the household while Nick worked two jobs. She was also a fabulous Italian cook.

She and Nick retired to Ocala, Florida and lived there 22 years before returning north to live with their daughter in Epping, N.H. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together. In August 2019 we celebrated her 90th birthday with over 100 people present.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Nick, parents Leonardo and Rose, her brother Sal and sister Mary.

She is survived by her sons Tommy and Michael Consilvio of Florida, daughter Marian and son-in-law David Steimke of N.H.; grandchildren Danielle and husband Garret Hicks, Olivia Steimke, Gianna Consilvio, Nathan Steimke and Thomas Consilvio Jr. Margaret’s family wishes to express deep appreciation to the many providers involved in her care in the last years of her life. Her most cherished home providers included Amanda Schwartz, Tara Bolduc, Tara Nazarian and Jade Nichols. We wish to acknowledge and thank her dedicated and caring providers at Derry Center in Derry, N.H. and Cornerstone in Hampton, N.H.
