Obituary of Ralph D. Johnson

Mr. Ralph D. Johnson, age 89, passed away on April 29, 2021 at hospice in Ocala, Fl. He was a native of North Carolina. His wife, Gaye, preceded him in death in 2014.

 

Ralph is survived by his two sons Rommie (Vicky) of Ocala, Mickey (Amalie) of Marietta, Ga. & Joni Esco of Miami, Fl., 7 grandchildren  (Rebekah Duffy, Meredith Kutz, Reece Johnson, Hale and Everett Johnson and P.J. and Austin Esco)  and 1 great grandchild (Autumn Duffy) as well as his brothers Dan Johnson (Tina) and Robert Johnson (Ann).

 

He was with the US Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War and spent 2 years in Germany. He entered the University of North Carolina in 1954 and graduated with a BS Degree in Business Administration (accounting) in 1957. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

 

Upon graduation, he joined Arthur Andersen in their Atlanta, Ga. Office as a staff accountant and became a CPA. In 1962, he was transferred to their Tampa office and in 1966 he helped open the office in Miami.

He became the Director of Administration, Human Resources & Recruiting for the Miami, Ft. Lauderdale & West Palm Beach offices.

Upon retirement in 1993, he and Gaye moved to Ocala and became members of the First Baptist Church of Ocala where Ralph sang in the choir.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Miami and Ocala Rotary Clubs.

Funeral Services will be held on August 14th, 2021 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Ocala, 2801 Maricamp Road, Ocala with Dr. Edward D. Johnson & Dr. Darren Gaddis officiating. He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl. on Monday August 16th at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, a gift in his memory may be sent to Hospice of Marion County, Inc, First Baptist Church of Ocala or a charity of your choice.
