Obituary of Detective Joseph Wolfe

Detective Joseph “Joe” George Wolfe, 81, of Ocala passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, FL. Joe was a native of Brooklyn, New York and moved to this area 35 years ago. He was a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. Joe served as a Detective for the New York City Police Department, retiring after 20 years. He began working for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in 1984 and retired after 20 years as a MCSO Detective. Joe was a member of the NYC Police Benevolent Association, Detective Endowment Association, Fraternal Order of Police, the Loyal Order of Moose, and enjoyed attending MCSO retiree breakfasts. He was an avid, talented, competitive bowler proud of his 300s and 800 series and competing (winning) for NYPD & MCSO Law Enforcement Games. Joe enjoyed racing homing pigeons and cooking specialties for his loved ones, preparing cheesecakes, struffoli, and pitas. He loved being outside with Judy, cultivating their garden and developing a certified wildlife habitat. Joe mostly cherished spending time with his family, which includes his wife of 58 years, Judy; daughters Joanne (John) Elfring, Betty Jeanne Taylor; sister Julia (Vincent) Donaruma; brothers Anthony (Nancy), Frank (Linda); grandchildren Ryan, Cole, Reese, Colin, Chris, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Antoinette Wolfe; brothers George, Thomas, and John Wolfe, and brother in law Jerry Napp. A celebration of life will be held in the future.
