Clinton Rumrill, Jr.

Obituary of Clinton H. Rumrill, Jr.

Clinton H. ”Clint” Rumrill Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 14th, in The Villages, FL, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie (Lane), and together they had three children: the late Cheryl Podymaitis, Cindy Zinnen and husband Bob, and Clinton H., III and wife Maria.  Clint is also survived by eight grandchildren, whom he loved very much: Paul and wife Lauren, Adam and Billy Podymaitis, Samantha, Alexandra, and Olivia Zinnen, Justin and Cameron Rumrill, and three great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Gianna, and Isabelle.  Clint was the oldest of six children: the late Capt. Paul Rumrill, US Army, Jim and wife Joann, John and wife Elaine, Linda, and Steve.

Clint was born in Cambridge, MA, on February 4th, 1942, the beloved son of the late Clinton H., Sr. and Irene (Enos) Rumrill. He graduated from the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in 1960 and attended Fitchburg State University and University of Massachusetts-Boston.  Clint wore many hats in his time on this earth. Some have known him as a daredevil who loved racing cars and participating in demolition derby.  Others knew him as Clint, the mechanic, mastering and loving the automotive arts, professionally working in a garage, and personally fixing cars for friends and family. Clint was an outstanding vocational teacher, instructing students at Newton North, Newtown South, and Waltham High Schools on automotive studies, woodworking, and welding, even being named Teacher of the Year. Other hats Clint wore were real estate agent, boy scout in the Order of the Arrow, an energetic RV adventurer, avid storyteller, a light-hearted prankster, and even at times, a gallery opening artist.  However, the roles he embraced most fiercely and held nearest to his heart were Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Clint was a fierce protector of his family and loved every member deeply. He was the first call when they needed support, a shoulder to cry on, and an endless well of advice, which will be leaned on in the coming years. Clint will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Services are to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in the form of a tribute gift to the Parkinson’s foundation in the memory of Clinton H. Rumrill, Jr. and the link is below.
