Thomas “Tom” “Boompa” Joseph Simon, Sr, age 84, of The Villages, FL passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019. He was born in Chicago, IL on September 16, 1934. Tom served in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad in Chicago, IL where he retired after 27 years. After retirement he worked as a security guard for St Francis Hospital in Blue Island, IL. Tom was also a Police and Fire Commissioner for The Village of Posen, IL for 20 years. He enjoyed horse shoes (also known as “The Closer”), golfing, bowling, and was a huge sports fan who loved his Blackhawks and White Sox. He also loved his Dachshunds Barney, Alex and Heidi. Tom was a member of Oxford Baptist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan; children Terri Mae (Montee), Shirlee Marie (Oscar), Susan Dale, Joni Jean (Richie), Thomas Joseph (Debbie), John Arthur (Cassie) and Mark Edward; 7 grandchildren Kristina (Jason), Susan (Daniel), Jennifer (Brock), Sheena (Ryan), Ashley, Johnny and Matthew; 12 great grandchildren Isabella, Dominic, Vincent, Sophia, Gianna, Raymond, Vivienne, Brooklyn, Luke, Skylar, Drew and Victoria.
A visitation with military presentation will take place at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL 32162 on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 2pm to 6pm. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery.
