Obituary of John Alan Everlove

John Alan Everlove passed away on November 7, 2018. He was 72    years old. A loving husband, Dad and Papa, he is survived by his wife Susan, son John Brian of Thousand Oaks, CA, son Scott Sharp (Jackie) of Jacksonville, FL, daughter Kim Vigneau (Larry) of Ortonville, MI; brother James Everlove (Delores) of Rochester Hills, MI; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

   Serving in the US Army from 1964 until 1967, and the US Army Reserve from 1974 until 1977, John attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was NCOIC of the 300 MP Command’s Bicentennial Color Guard.

   A dedicated and decorated police officer, John was retired from the city of Royal Oak. He also taught at Macomb Community College Police Academy and was owner of P.R.A. Security Consultants.

   Upon retirement, he and Susan moved to Florida. Among other work, John taught Criminal Justice at Remington College in Largo, FL where he was awarded Instructor of the Year. John became a Draw Bridge tender and served in that capacity for many years while pursuing a career in writing.

    Beach Life Magazine, Guest Life Magazine and the Citizen newspaper were a few of the publications that John wrote for during his retirement. He especially enjoyed writing for the Cherrywood community.

    A gold card member of Lodge 130, Fraternal Order of Police, John is also a member of the American Legion and Past Commander of the Army Navy Union and the Royal Canadian Legion and past Vice President of the Cherrywood Veteran’s Club.

    Church of the Advent was John’s spiritual home where he was a past member of the Vestry and a lay eucharistic minister.

    John loved God, loved his family and loved his country. Donations in lieu of flowers to Church of the Advent or the Salvation Army.
