Obituary of Robert (Bob) John Moger, Jr

Robert John Moger, Jr

December 24, 1938—July 27, 2018

Robert (Bob) John Moger, Jr. was born December 24, 1938 in Fort Myers, FL. He was the only child of Robert John Moger, Sr, and Ruth Elizabeth. Born at the end of the Great Depression, he grew up in his hometown during World War II and the post-war years of prosperity. After graduating from high school in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Corps of Engineers as a land surveyor. He obtained the rank of corporal during his enlistment. While stationed in Germany, Bob met his wife Sandree through Bethel Baptist Church in Frankfurt, her hometown. After a brief courtship, the couple were married May 2, 1959. Bob then returned to the United States while Sandree waited four months to obtain a visa before she could join him.

The couple lived first in Fort Myers, then in other Florida cities, settling in Miami for a decade, beginning in 1962. During this period, he worked for General Development and then Deltona Corporation and completed an associate’s degree at Miami-Dade Community College before going on to study finance at the University of Miami. In 1972, he moved with his wife and two young sons to Ocala, where he established an engineering firm which he sold in 1979 to become a land developer and builder. In the 1980s, he served as a Vice President of Retirement Corporation of America and helped build nursing homes and retirement communities in Ormond Beach, Naples, and Beverly Hills, FL. Bob obtained a real estate brokers license and throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, he ran his own business, designing and selling custom-built, single-family homes. After the housing market crash in 2007, he helped customers buy foreclosed properties.

A Christian man of strong personal faith in Jesus Christ, Bob was baptized in Bethel Baptist Church in 1959 and later served as a deacon and treasurer of various Baptist Churches. He was a loving husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Sandree; two sons, Cortlandt (J.C.) and Travis; four grandchildren: Natalie Hynes, Nadine, Madeline, Mark; and one great grandchild: Boaz Hynes.
