Obituary of Donald L. Hickey

Donald L. Hickey, 87, of The Villages, FL passed away on June 24.  He was born in Topeka, KS on May 22, 1931, son of John and Daisy (Rowden) Hickey.  Don served in the US Navy.  He married Frances L. Young on June 19, 1953. She predeceased him on Sept. 10, 2017.  Their 64 years of marriage were spent in Topeka, Tonganoxie, & McLouth, KS, and 2 years in Hot Springs Village, AR.  They resided in The Villages, FL for the past 23 years.

Don operated his own ice cream business in Kansas for many years, & was later employed with JT's General Store & Hallmark Cards, Inc.

Don was an afternoon regular at The Villages Silver Lake recreation center.  He formed the Hickey Advanced Billiard League.

Survivors include his two sons and two daughters, John Hickey of Lawrence, KS, Sharon Molby & husband Frank of Lawrence, KS, Ed Hickey & wife Lisa of Topeka, KS, and Kathy Hickey of Lawrence, KS.  Two grandchildren, Kelsee Torrez & Ryan (Heather) Hickey - both of Topeka, Ks.  He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL 32159 on July 7 at 2:00 pm.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 pm in the Charlie Chaplin room at Paradise rec center following the service.  Memorials may be made to Hospice.
