Effie Mae Miller THE VILLAGES - Effie Mae Miller, 84, passed from this life Monday, February 26, 2018. Born in North Webster, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Lura (Strombeck) Himes. Effie received her Associates Degree from Purdue University. While at Purdue, Effie was a Drum Majorette and member of the prestigious "Golden Girls". She was an accountant and worked for numerous concerns throughout her career. Effie came to The Villages with her husband, Paul, in 2002. She was a devoted volunteer to The Villages Regional Hospital. Effie served as chief accountant for the hospital's Auxiliary as well as the hospital's Auxiliary Foundation. She served as a volunteer for over 13 years, retiring from the position due to health concerns. Effie was presented with an Award Certificate from the Auxiliary Foundation in 2017 for her dedication and spirit of volunteerism. It has been estimated her volunteer hours totaled over 6000 hours. For a time, Effie also volunteered at the Cornerstone's The Villages Hospice House. Effie leaves her beloved husband, Paul; a daughter, Christine Miller, of The Villages; a son, Greg Miller of Middletown, NY and granddaughter, Demi Hassiotis of Hoboken, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
