Obituary of William Hoyt Wimberly

Cocoa – William Hoyt Wimberly passed away on March 24, 2018 at Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville, Florida. Hoyt was born in Citra, Florida on December 20, 1935 to Otis Newton Wimberly and Rosa Hobkirk Wimberly. At the age of 11, in 1947 his family moved to Cocoa, Florida to start a new life, as they were some of the early pioneers in Brevard County. His mother and father worked at the Nevins Fruit Packing House in Cocoa where the Dixie Motel is now located.

In the early 1950’s he went to work for the Duda Ranch as a ranch hand working cows and what ever was needed tending too. Also, from 1953 to 1959 he served in the Army National Guard Reserve. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he worked for RL (Bob) Monarch operating cranes and draglines. He worked with Monarch Crane Service at the Kennedy Space Center building some of the launch pads and the VAB. In the mid 1960’s he went to work with Brevard County Road and Bridge operating a dragline digging many of the larger ditches and canals that are in Brevard County today. Hoyt was also a 46-year brother mason with the Brevard Masonic Lodge, No 113, F. & A. M.

Hoyt is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorene Wimberly; daughter, Patti (Jim) Russell; son Mike (Chris) Wimberly; granddaughter, Sara Nicole Wimberly; grandson, Andrew (Shannon) Wimberly; great-grandchildren Sophia and Aubrey Wimberly; sister Virginia (Butch) Griffith.

Hoyt’s graveside service will be held at the Citra Cemetery in Marion County, Florida on Friday, March 30 at 10:00 AM.
