Obituary of Dane Kenneth Johnson

Dane Kenneth Johnson passed away at his home in The Villages on Friday, March 2, 2018. He was 86 years old. Dane was born in Sanford, Maine, on July 18, 1931, the only child of Gertrude (Mellen) and Dane Johnson, Sr. An active and athletic young man, he joined the Air Force soon after high school graduation. While in the military, he met the love of his life, Elaine Petersen, who he married in Manistee, Michigan on March 15, 1954. They were together for 60 years. When his military service ended, Dane began his career with General Electric as a radar technician. This work took Dane and Elaine throughout Asia; their sons were born in Japan and the Philippines. Eventually they moved to California where he was assigned to GE's computer division. After the San Fernando earthquake in 1971, Dane moved his family to Avon Lake, Ohio where they lived for the next 30 years. In 1988, he retired from General Electric as a senior systems analyst. Avid golfers and frequent visitors to Florida, Dane and Elaine moved to The Villages in 2003. Dane was preceded in death by Elaine and his parents. He is survived by his sons Dane (Denice) Johnson and Robert (Lisa) Johnson; grandchildren Dane Kevin (Tiffany), Jennifer, Derek, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Carter, Luke, and Amelia. Dane and Elaine are now reunited and their ashes will be scattered together in a private family service.
