Pontius, Harold Edwin, 89
Harold Edwin Pontius, 89, formally of Ocala Florida, passed away on April 7, 2018. Harold was born on June 14, 1928 at Seneca Falls, New York, the son of Laverne and Irene Ament Pontius. He attended Waterloo, N.Y. schools and graduated from the Dolgeville, N.Y. High School in 1946. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Following discharge, he married Cecelia Farley of Wilmington, N.C. and resided in St. Johnsville, N.Y. where the couple had three sons and a daughter. He is a 55-tear member of the St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge No. 611 F&AM, and served as its Master in 1960. He was a 13-year member of St. Johnsville Fire Department, its Rescue Team, and Drum & Bugle Corps. He was employed at The Enterprise & News for many years. He later moved to Oneida, N.Y., where he was employed by The Oneida Dispatch Press as its job shop manager.
In 1968 he and his family moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where he became associated with Keystone Coach Mfg. Co. for 14 years as their plant manager and design engineer. Following the close of the business, he moved to Ocala, Florida where he founded Eagle Printers, a small commercial printing business from which he retired in 1996.
He was an active member of Ocala West Detachment 1072 of the Marine Corps league. He held a private airplane pilots license and had participated in local flying clubs. He was a member of the Marion County Sheriff’s C.E.R.T. Emergency Response Team. He was a member of Ocala West United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sons; Dale of Bunnell, Fl, Gary of Palm Coast, Fl and Brian of Ormond Beach, Fl and daughter, Shari Dow of Ormond Beach, Fl; two granddaughters, Kaylee Dow of Ormond Beach and Tiffany Pontius of Orlando, Fl and two nieces.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Timber Ridge, 9695 SW 110th Street, Ocala. A service will take place at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 with a burial following at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hiers-baxley.com.
